I listen to the Happier Podcast by Gretchen Rubin and Elizabeth Craft. I enjoy their annual challenges. Last night, on New Year’s Eve, my husband and I sat down and went over our 23 for 23. We wrote down 23 things we wanted to accomplish for 2023, as per the Happier Podcast challenge. We both did quite well getting close to 20 of our 23 things. And some of them were seemingly silly, like buy a new plant, but having it on a list helped to accomplish it.
This year, I chose not to do a list of 24 for 24 because some of them I just wrote down for the sake of having a number. It wasn’t aspirational, more of a to-do list, thus our conversation lead me to intentions. I’ve chosen to have 5 intentions for this year, it feels a little more like guidance rather than a must do. And I need more guidance and less should in my life at the moment.
And then tonight, while folding laundry alone, I listened to the Happier podcast and wanted to know what their challenge for the year was. It is to write 24 in 24. That can be 2-4 minutes, or it could be 24 minutes. For now, I’ll stick to the 2-4 and just set out on a journey, see where it takes me.
Gretchen espoused the need for convenience. You must have your writing apparatus in a convenient place. That means that my lap top stays on my counter this year. And I write either in the morning after walking the dog, or right after my son’s bed time. Today, it is after my son’s bedtime.
I don’t plan to publish all of these ramblings, but maybe it will work together to create something… or not… I just needed an assignment, and accountability, and something to give me a little kick in the pants to get going!
I hope your 2024 is off to a relaxing, and guided start. Let me know if you plan to join Gretchen, Elizabeth and me as we write our way through 2024?
